Blog layout design

August 22nd, 2006 by dessuchiko

Here’s a screen capture of the blog layout that I’ve just finished designing. I’ll be using this layout for my new Blogger site, but I’ve decided that I’ll probably maximise the FS blog’s storage space before I permanently switch to the new blog.

Blog_design_leon_pistache_1

Anyway, the layout is ALMOST done! What’s left now are the oh-so-complicated HTML and CSS codes that are nothing but a pain in the ass.

If in the end I decide not to switch to Blogger and keep on using the FS blog, then I’ll probably put up the fully-coded layout in DayDreamGraphics for other people to use.

Complaints

August 22nd, 2006 by dessuchiko

I’ve had several people complain to me bout how their inbox is full of those annoying "Dessy has updated her Friendster blog". Puhh-leeze! A lot of my friends update their FS blogs and of course I get those annoying emails too, but if you don’t like ‘em then why dont you just delete them immediately? It’s as simple as that!

Secondly, I’ve had 2 people complain to me bout how insignificant my blog content is. Hello!! I write blogs for my own amusement, and it’s a coincidence that some of my friends luv reading it and that they check it out regularly to find out what’s up with me. So if you don’t happen to be interested, then you DON’T HAVE to read my blog; it’s as simple as that! ;)

Peace out yo!!

Back to Blogger?

August 21st, 2006 by dessuchiko

It’s the first day of my 2-week mid-term break, and I began my day by waking up incredibly late *yawn*
I have tons of things to do actually. I have a lot to catch up on my studies, and my house is still a mess, yet I spent most of my day in front of the computer doing nothing useful.

I realised that the blog on Friendster has a storage limit of 50MB, and it says that I’ve used almost 25% of it. I’m starting to think I should move back to using Blogger as my blogging tool. See, before blogging in Friendster, my blog used to be dessuchiko.blogspot.com (go check it out if you’re interested).

I really loved that blog cos I’ve made it really personal. I designed the layout and made the whole page really cute, and I love Blogger cos
there’s no storage limit and it’s totally flexible in the design. I could modify the HTML and CSS easily, and I could also use
Javascripts on the blog, whereas I can’t modify anything in this Friendster
blog (unless I upgrade to the non-free blog account).

Anyhow, I stopped blogging @ Blogger cos my dad found out about it and I hate it whenever my parents discover anything about me that they weren’t supposed to know about. For example, once I wrote about reading the 6th Harry Potter book in my lecture class and he confronted me about it and told my mom as well, but luckily mom didn’t believe him cos she thought I would never do such a thing.

Leonpistache2005_01

Anyway, I went on to look for some cool Blogger templates, but they’re all ugly. Then I came across a French illustrator’s website at LeonPistache.com and I found the pic above. I really like the pic cos it’s SO me!! I’m thinking of making a blog layout out of it and start using Blogger again! So when I’m done, I’ll tell you what my new blog address will be. However, I don’t guarantee this cos I might not even finish designing the layout. Those who know me well should know that I don’t normally complete things if I only take them as a leisure, eg. my comic illustrations, my piano compositions, my short stories, my paintings, etc.

My TradeMe story

August 18th, 2006 by dessuchiko

Starfish_swarovski_1I am probably one of the world’s most unfortunate people! You see, I’ve been wanting to buy a brand new, Swarovski Strass crystal necklace from TradeMe. So I got online a few hours before the auction ended, just to keep an eye on it. I wanted to bid in the last 5 minutes before it closed at 5pm. Thus, while waiting for the digital clock to show "4:55pm", I was browsing the net, chatting to nobody due to my deliberate "Appear Offline" MSN status, then Adam came in to my mind and I wish he was online! (Or in fact, I wish anybody from AHSS is online right now!!)

So who’s this Adam I’m talking about? Well, he’s a friend of mine since 3rd grade in Jordan, but we left the country at the same time right after 7th grade. I went back to Indonesia, while he moved to England. He’s half Palestinian and half Yugoslav, but holds both Jordanian and British citizenship (lucky him!) We weren’t that close back then, but I remember he used to be the class clown and he was the only one with a strong British accent whereas everyone else had an American accent. I’d lost contact with him until a few days ago when Abz told me that he went to Jordan for the summer break and met up with Adam, Amir, and Mohammad Ayad. So yup, I got Adam’s email and we’re back in touch ever since, and of course he still remembers me (I’m such a memorable person, haha!) and he’s so psyched to hear about me!! We both miss the good old times in Jordan despite the fact that we used to hate it back then (in fact, the whole class did!)

Anyway, the pic above shows Adam on the front, Amir with the pink shirt (the car’s probably his too, mmm how posh!), and Mohammad Ayad on the back. This meant Abz was the one who took the photo, I wish he was in it too! Which is why I put an extra pic of him alone, hehe:

In the mean time, let’s continue from the 1st paragraph above. See, after wishing that Adam (or anyone from AHSS) was online right now, I started to remember Maysa. Maysa’s probably one of the very few girls that I haven’t got any news from. It’s like nobody knows where she is now, and none of my friends that I’ve kept in touch with knows her email. So I looked her up on Google. It’s cool how you can search your friends up on the search engine. I tried my name once, and Chiqa’s, and Nina’s, and Utine’s, and Addy’s, and Bobby’s, and Abz’s, etc. This time I typed "Maysa Odeh", and voila! A few sites came up, including a Xanga blog of hers! Immediately I clicked on it, and horray!! I found her MSN addy! Can’t wait to talk to her on MSN!! I’m 100% sure she’ll be astonished to know that the one that’s just added her was me: the smarty-head, most innocent, painfully-shy-back-then friend of hers in AHSS =) Oh yea, I also found out from her blog that she studied Computer Science at Jordan University for a few semesters, but right now she’s somewhere in San Francisco. Good on her!

Summerplansblog_1

Oh by the way I grabbed this pic from her blog, and it’s like, WOW! Her face hasn’t changed AT ALL!! She still looks so sweet and pretty!!

Okay, back to the TradeMe topic. Because I was so excited to rediscover Maysa by going through her blog, I totally forgot about the Swarovski auction that I’d been waiting for!! Right about 2 minutes before it closed, I put up my bid, but HELL NO!! The server on TradeMe screwed up and my internet connection went painfully slow, and… you got that right, baby! The auction closed in a blink of an eye. Ohhh!! The DISAPPOINTMENT is KILLING ME!! And it’s all thanks to… (OK this time I’m probably the best person to blame).

Hizbullah vs Israel

August 14th, 2006 by dessuchiko

IsraelkidsA few days ago my pal Abz sent me an email that includes a link to a video that you peeps MUST watch!! It’s the ABSOLUTE TRUTH to what’s really behind the Middle East crisis. Click HERE to watch it (yes, you MUST watch this!!)

Anyway, here’s another video that shows that the world’s finally getting on our side. Click HERE to see the 2nd video.

Oh yeah, this picture on the left CANNOT be neglected!! I got this from Abz as well, and it’s a pic of Israeli kids signing bombs to bomb Palestinian families, women, children, and babies. Just think for a sec, I don’t believe there’s anything more evil than having kids sign bombs to kill innocent people. What sort of f***in nation is Israel gonna be in the future??!!

In the mean time, take a moment to read a posting from my friend Ardhi about Hizbullah’s increased patriotism and chances of winning: Click HERE.

Next, wanna know what it was like when I visited Israel and Lebanon? Click HERE to find out.

After you’re all done, don’t forget to pray for the Lebanese people who got attacked, regardless of whether you’re Muslims or Christians, cos not only the Muslim Lebanese got killed by the f**kin Israelis, but the Christians too. May those Israelis rot in hell!! Heck, unlike Arabs, they can’t even do a thing without backing from the United States!! Hmmph!!

Food.. Glorious food..

August 12th, 2006 by dessuchiko

Aargh I’m sooo hungry!! My bro went off to Newlands and I’m waiting for him to bring home some food from Yeung Shing. Yesterday I had this for lunch:
NandosYup, it’s Nando’s Extra Hot 1/4 Grilled Chicken!! and it’s too delicious to resist!!
Anyway, right now I’m eating some hash browns and boiled broccoli. I don’t like veggies in any way other than boiled or fresh =)

I totally miss all the traditional food in Indo! Somay, batagor, mie ayam, mie bakso, sate, ketoprak, pempek, you name it!! When I reached the Wellington airport from Jakarta-Singapore-Auckland, I was hungry, and because there was no food at home my bro and I decided to get something from elsewhere. So I started thinking what should we eat, but it was then that I realised that nothing’s delicious in Wellington (except those expensive, savoury grilled steaks). All the Asian meals here are of standard quality, nothing special. I even reckon that the Chinese food in Jordan are much much better than those in Wellington. Tapi setelah dipikir2, ternyata masi ada juga kok yang enak2 ‘n affordable di sini.. such as Nando’s (Nina’s favourite) and St Pierre’s Sushi! (Inx’s favourite!) ^-^

Finalement

August 11th, 2006 by dessuchiko

OMG, I finally had the courage to do it.. I’m so sorry I did it, probablement tu me detestera si tu decouvres ce que j’ai fait. (._.)

GetFunkd

August 11th, 2006 by dessuchiko

Yay, it’s the end of Week 5 and next week’s the final week before the first half of the trimester ends! I just can’t wait til the mid-term break comes!!

So what have I done today? Well, I began my day by typing up my Auditing tut assignment at 7am. At 10:30am, I went off for my French tutorial and we did a heated and full-on debate about MONEY. I love my French tut, cos the class is so small and everyone’s just so fun to be with.

Anyway, semester ini gk ada lagi orang Indo yg sekelas ama gua. Bayangin aja, dari semester kedua gua di uni sampe semester lalu gua sekelas mulu ama ma’ cute li’l Bebi alias Ing-Ing. Bosen gk sih?? (Hehe, gk deng, ntar yg bersangkutan marah lg =p) Trs2, sekelas ama Chiqa jg udah 2 kali. Oleh karena itu, this time I speak Indonesian less and less! Jadi inget pas gua di Indo, banyak yg bilang kalo bahasa Indo gua aneh. Ada yg bilang intonasinya beda lah, logatnya beda lah, ‘n bahkan ada 1 orang yg bilang klo my Indonesian’s just plain weird. Haha, I just laugh it off, cos it means that I’m unique eh? =D

At this very second I’m quite bored. I really need to start studying for two of my tests next week, but I just don’t have the mood for it yet. Oh yeah, I haven’t even submitted my application for the IRD job. Uuh, paling males kalo bikin Cover Letter-nya nih. I encouraged Chiqa to apply for it too, especially cos you don’t need the NZICA requirements to apply. However, she was already put off by IRD cos she hated the interviewers, and I can understand that. I’ve been in the same position too cos I was put off by one of the Ernst&Young interviewers a few months ago that I decided that I will never ever consider to apply for E&Y anymore.

Oh yeah, yesterday I went to GetFunkd in the James Smith corner to get a free hair consultation. I wasn’t planning to get a haircut or anything, I just went there soalnya lgBlog_smile_1 iseng aja cos gua udah bosen ama yg namanya window shopping. Anyway, I asked the hairdresser what sort of hairstyle would suit my face and my stubborn hair condition. She said that the latest choppy concave would suit me, along with layered, side-parted fringe, and she said that having caramel streaks on my fringe would look awesome. Langsung deh gua bayang2in diri sendiri dgn hairstyle kyk gitu. Uuh jadi pengen deh, tapi gila aja totalnya $80, males gua ngeluarin duit segitu buat rambut doang, lagian juga gua mo manjangin rambut gua kok, cos I reckon I look more mature with long hair (this is essential in my job hunting to portray how mature I am despite my age). But anyway, just to make the hairdresser happy, I pretended to tell her how excited I am about the hairstyle and asked for her contact details to make an appointment for the cut (but of course I ain’t gon make such appointment).

Just to end this blog post, I just wanna say that whoever stole my expensive Spanish textbook must DIE and ROT in hell !!!!!!

Top 3 comments

August 9th, 2006 by dessuchiko

Here are the Top 3 comments that I get a lot from people every time they see me:

1) "Dessy kok tambah kurus??"
–> My usual reply: "Dari dulu juga kayak gini kok.."

2) "Dessy potong rambut lagi ya? Kok laen rambutnya??"
–> My usual reply: "Enggak kok.. gini2 aja lagi.."

3) Now this is the one I mostly get from Kiwis:
    "Cool zips!" or
"I like those huge zips on your bag!" or
"Those zips make a huge noise!"
–> My usual reply: "Oh.. Thanks!"

It’s official!

C’est official!
